The Blessing and Curse That is the Smartphone

Wednesday Words.  (Barely…posting at 11:58pm, LOL.)

It’s ridiculously easy nowadays to stay connected to anyone, anything, anytime, anywhere with the advancements in technology, and there are a lot of perks to that.  While the benefits of things like smartphones are incredible, I feel that they’ve actually caused a disconnect by creating habits of using devices as the only or primary way of communicating.  At the risk of sounding way older than I actually am, I kind of miss the pre-smartphone days.  Life was simpler in many ways – fewer distractions and not being blasted by all angles by media, to name a couple.

Have relationships with people, not your smartphone or tablet.  See the world with your eyes, not through an Instagram or SnapChat filter.  Show support for a friend by having an actual conversation with them, not hitting the like or dislike button.

And find those things that make you forget to check your phone 🙂

  1. Stephanie – You made a very important comment about having relationships and seeing the world. I think Grandma and Grandpa certainly taught us how important those activities are! You are a great niece. Love, Aunt Elaine
