Sway

Totally digging Danielle Bradbery’s “Sway” right now.

Chill melody, lyrics that I agree with and enjoy, and just an overall good vibe.  She won NBC’s The Voice a few years ago, and I honestly can’t remember if she’s had any other songs released that I like, but I’m definitely a fan of this one 🙂

Lyrics and music below.  Enjoy!

Sway

Hey, we’re all in the same boat
Life can really suck sometimes
But hey, can’t live in a shadow
So here’s a little piece of advice

Start by kicking off your shoes
Leave ’em right by the door
Then you call a couple friends
And you call a few more
Put a drink into your glass
That will make you let go
Then you find something smooth on the radio

That makes you wanna sway to the left
And sway to the right
Get lost in a groove that will make your lose you mind
Put a smile on your face and you ride into a daze
No there ain’t nothing wrong when a song comes on that makes you wanna
Sway, ay ay ayyyy, ay ay ayyyy, oh oh

Hey, world’s kinda messed up
We got no time for sitting around
Wait for it to let up
Let’s break some rules and figure it out

Start by kicking off your shoes
Leave ’em right by the door
Then you call a couple friends
And you call a few more
Put a drink into your glass
That will make you let go
Then you find something smooth on the radio

That makes you wanna sway to the left
And sway to the right
Get lost in a groove that will make your lose you mind
Put a smile on your face and you ride into a daze
No there ain’t nothing wrong when a song comes on that makes you wanna
Sway, ay ay ayyyy, ay ay ayyyy, oh oh
That makes you wanna
Sway, ay ay ayyyy, ay ay ayyyy, oh oh

Start by kicking off your shoes
And you find something smooth

Something that makes you wanna swaaaay to the left
And swaaaay to the right
Get lost in a groove that will make your lose you mind
Put a smile on your face and you ride into a daze
No there ain’t nothing wrong when a song comes on that makes you wanna
Sway, ay ay ayyyy, ay ay ayyyy, oh oh
That makes you wanna
Sway, ay ay ayyyy, ay ay ayyyy, oh oh

All On Me

For a number of reasons – some I’m aware of and some I’m sure are buried in my subconscious – I’ve found myself evaluating most of the relationships I have with people in my life over the last nine months or so.

I’m SO lucky to have some of the very best guys and gals around me.  I heard this newly-released song over the weekend when I was in the car for several hours, and despite its romantic undertone, it made me reflect on the people who I can hear saying, “put it all on me”.  Admittedly, I don’t do well with this – sharing my own issues, needs, troubles with others.  But I know that when I DO get to that point, they’ll be there 🙂

Thank you, Devin Dawson, for a sweet new tune – “All On Me”.  Lyrics and music video below!

(Verse 1)
Yeah I know that the woes and the weight of the world can get inside our minds and be too much sometimes I know
But baby don’t let the no’s and the ups and the downs from the rollercoaster ride beat you up inside…baby don’t
But if you ever feel that way, don’t you ever hesitate, ’cause

(Chorus)
You got my number, you can call on me
If you’re in trouble, put the fall on me
When you’re mad, you can take it out on me
When it don’t add up, you can count on me
When you’re low, come get high on me
Make it slow, take your time on me
Settle in, let it out, come and lay on me
When it gets heavy, put the weight on me
Baby, put it all on me
Put it all on me

(Verse 2)
Wanna take you out on the town on my dime anytime, tell me when you’re free
We can do anything and everything you want, yeah
Oh I wanna hear all your fears and your troubles
Strip it down, really get to know one another
When it’s nobody but you and me, just us
Girl you know I’m here for you
You can lean on me anytime you need to

(Chorus)
You got my number, you can call on me
If you’re in trouble, put the fall on me
When you’re mad, you can take it out on me
When it don’t add up, you can count on me
When you’re low, come get high on me
Make it slow, take your time on me
Settle in, let it out, come and lay on me
When it gets heavy, put the weight on me
Baby, put it all on me
Girl, put it all on me

(Bridge)
C’mon, relax your mind on me
When you need a shoulder, you can cry on me
Baby you can bet your life on me
Put it all on me

(Chorus)
You got my number, you can call on me
If you’re in trouble, put the fall on me
When you’re mad, you can take it out on me
When it don’t add up, you can count on me
When you’re low, come get high on me
Make it slow, take your time on me
Settle in, let it out, come and lay on me
When it gets heavy, put the weight on me
Baby, put it all on me
Yeah, baby put it all on me, yeah

Cheers!

How Will I Know

Yesterday, I decided to treat myself to a pedicure before a family wedding.  I was reading a magazine and only kinda hearing the music that was on in the background, but about fifteen minutes in, I put my book down and started really listening.

See, something in my brain triggered that the lyrics flowing into my ears weren’t matching the melody that I knew belonged with those words.  Turns out that it was a Sam Smith cover of Whitney Houston’s hit “How Will I Know” – but a suuuuuper slow and soulful version of it.

LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I mean, besides the fact that he has an incredible voice that just begs you to listen, I couldn’t remember hearing a song turned on its head like that.  I’m not talking about the live or unplugged versions of songs, but to use his words from a Rolling Stone article, “I love the juxtaposition of a melancholy lyric with an upbeat sound. People forget that’s how she rose to fame. The more mature Whitney, like ‘I Will Always Love You,’ came later.”

I’m still in awe almost 24 hours later.  Seriously, take a couple minutes and check it out below.  It’s an absolutely beautiful rendition.

And HELLO, that voice with just a piano backing him up?  Swoon 😀

(And yes, I know this was released almost three years ago, but I swear the first time I heard it was yesterday.  Guess I gotta stay on top of music things a bit better 😉 )

Cheers!

Happy People

I heard Little Big Town’s song “Happy People” for the first time yesterday, and while I admittedly don’t completely dig the music, I super big puffy heart LOVE LOVE LOVE the lyrics and the message they speak ❤ ❤ ❤

Check them out below and then listen to the song via YouTube.

Little Big Town, “Happy People”

Happy people don’t cheat
Happy people don’t lie
They don’t judge or hold a grudge
They don’t criticize
Happy people don’t hate
Happy people don’t steal
Cause all the hurt sure ain’t worth
All the guilt they’d feel

If you wanna know the secret
Can’t buy it, gotta make it
You ain’t ever gonna be it
By takin’ someone else’s away
Never take it for granted
You don’t have to understand it
Here’s to whatever puts a smile on your face
Whatever makes you happy people

Happy people don’t fail
Happy people just learn
Don’t think they’re above the push and shove
They just wait their turn
They always got a hand
Or a dollar to spare
Know the golden rule what you’re goin’ through
Even if they’ve never been there

If you want to know the secret
Can’t buy it, gotta make it
You ain’t ever gonna be it
By takin’ someone else’s away
Never take it for granted
You don’t have to understand it
Here’s to whatever puts a smile on your face
Whatever makes you happy people

These days it ain’t always easy to find
They’re the ones who you want standing by your side
No time for greed, if they need some, give ’em a slice
And we’ll all be happy people

Well life is short
And love is rare
And we all deserve to be happy while we’re here

To quote the song, here’s to whatever makes you happy, people 🙂  Find it, do it, and be happy.

Cheers!

Faith When I Fall

I know a number of people going through tough times right now, some completely unimaginable.

A song I like to go back to when I’m feeling troubled is Kip Moore’s “Faith When I Fall”.  I hope it can help you or someone you know when you’re struggling, whether that’s now or in the future.

“Faith When I Fall”, by Kip Moore

I know it’s been a long time since the last time we talked
I know I’ve been a stranger and that’s all my fault
And asking you for anything don’t early seem right
But the winds are change, a-blowing

Give me love when I ain’t got nobody
A little hope when I ain’t got none at all
Give me light up ahead up on the journey
Give me strength when I’m standing
And faith when I fall

I know the rain is coming and it’s sure gonna pour
I know there ain’t no running from this kinda storm
It’s gonna get harder and harder to keep on pushing through
I’m gonna wanna quit, so I’ll be counting on you

Give me love when I ain’t got nobody
A little hope when I ain’t got none at all
Give me light up ahead on the journey
Give me strength when I’m standing
And faith when I fall

When the clouds start parting and the sun starts shining through
This time I won’t forget, I won’t forget about you

Give me love when I ain’t got nobody
A little hope when I ain’t got none at all
Give me love when I ain’t got nobody
A little hope when I ain’t got none at all
Give me light up ahead on the journey
Give me strength when I’m standing
And faith when I fall

(There’s not an official music video, but just search the song title in YouTube and you can listen to it.)

Stand

My husband and I got a new-to-us car last weekend (eeeeek!!!), and one its features is an on-board CD library.  Essentially, you can store up to 20ish CDs in the car’s computer system and play them whenever you’d like.  Cool, huh?

So, as I’m driving the car last week, I decide to check out what was in the CD library at a stoplight and discover that the previous owner was a BIG fan of the country music group Rascal Flatts.  Literally, the only music stored were of that group 🙂

I flipped to one randomly and the very first song I heard was one that has a lot of meaning to me – “Stand”.

Back in January 2007, I wasn’t in a super great place.  There was some sad stuff going on with family, and I really didn’t like the job I was in (my first one out of college).  I was the unhappiest I had ever been, to be frank.

I had my iPod on random at work one afternoon, and a Rascal Flatts song I wasn’t super familiar with came on, “Stand”.  The melody grabbed my attention, and I stopped what I was doing to really listen to the song.  I was in tears by the end of it.  I guess it was kind of was the wake-up call I needed to realize that I was in control of my own life, and only me.  So if I wanted things to change, I had to do it myself instead of waiting for things to happen.

(In hindsight, it shouldn’t have taken a song for me to realize this, but whatevs – I was 22, fresh out of school, and living on my own in a brand new city where I didn’t know anyone.)

I’m glad I heard that song that day.  It inspired me to talk with people at work and change job tracks about a month later.  My new role was something that I really enjoyed and was really good at, steadily moving up the ranks for the next seven years.

I’ve shared the song with a couple friends over the years, too – particularly when I know they’re going through a rough patch.  Check out the lyrics below, and if they’re as impactful to you as they were to me, or you know someone who could use reading them, I encourage you to share them 🙂

“Stand”, by Rascal Flatts

You feel like a candle in a hurricane
Just like a picture with a broken frame
Alone and helpless
Like you’ve lost your fight
But you’ll be alright, you’ll be alright

[Chorus:]
‘Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you’re made of
You might bend, ’til you break
‘Cause it’s all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you’ve had enough
You get mad, you get strong
Wipe your hands, shake it off
Then you stand,
Then you stand

Life’s like a novel
With the end ripped out
The edge of a canyon
With only one way down
Take what you’re given before it’s gone
And start holding on, keep holding on

[Chorus:]
‘Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you’re made of
You might bend ’til you break
‘Cause it’s all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you’ve had enough
You get mad, you get strong
Wipe your hands, shake it off
Then you stand,
Yeah, then you stand

Every time you get up
And get back in the race
One more small piece of you
Starts to fall into place

[Chorus:]
‘Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you’re made of
You might bend ’til you break
‘Cause it’s all you can take
On your knees you look up
Decide you’ve had enough
You get mad, you get strong
Wipe your hands, shake it off
Then you stand,
Yeah, then you stand

Cheers!

God Gave Me You

About five years ago, I sang Blake Shelton’s song “God Gave Me You” during the wedding ceremony of two of my dearest friends.  It was a very special moment I’ll never forget 🙂

I heard it on Monday for the first time in quite awhile, and darn it if it didn’t make me tear up immediately – both at the memory and because of the timing of hearing it at the beginning of this particular week.

The lyrics are quite sweet, and as the music video depicts, the overall theme of the song can apply in many situations – between parents and children, between friends, between spouses/significant others, and sometimes between perfect strangers.

It’s all about who God brings into our lives and when.

Some people will only be in your lives for a fleeting moment, others for years and years.  Some will be there in your brightest moments, others in your darkest days.  I myself believe that we don’t just cross paths with people just by accident – there’s always a reason.

Cheers to two of my bests – Happy Anniversary a bit early!  Love you both 🙂

“God Gave Me You” by Blake Shelton

I’ve been a walking heartache
I’ve made a mess of me
The person that I’ve been lately
Ain’t who I wanna be
But you stay here right beside me
Watch as the storm goes through
And I need you
CHORUS:
‘Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
For when I think I’ve lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you
There’s more here than what were seeing
A divine conspiracy
That you, an angel lovely
Could somehow fall for me
You’ll always be love’s great martyr
And I’ll be the flattered fool
And I need you, yeah
(CHORUS)
On my own I’m only
Half of what I could be
I can’t do without you
We are stitched together
And what love has tethered
I pray we never undo
‘Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I’ve lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you, gave me you
He gave me you
